I really did write a post while in London! However, it doesn’t really reflect my feelings on the place, so I suppose I’ll […]

Wonderful post, Kim. I also am a fan of Eckhart Tolle, and I love the advice you posted about forgiving ourselves for the things we didn’t know. Writing is healing. And I also believe writing is a full immersion in the moment. I look forward to reading more of yours.
Thanks, Michelle. I’ve been trying to find a way to write about all of this in a way that I could submit, or publish, and all that’s happened is I get stuck. It feels like less pressure here. I don’t want to relegate my “in the moment” writing to something I am trying hard to put behind me. So here it is. And now, I have a workshop deadline coming up, and I feel able to put my whole heart into that piece. 🙂 I am so grateful for your support. xo (Eckhart is the cutest man – his giggles kill me.)
That was a brave post, Kim. Just to be brief, when I was recovering from being harassed and bullied at work (and getting fired for filing a formal complaint about it) I turned to writing. First, I got a short story accepted for publication in an anthology that was later nominated for best Atlantic book of 2012 (it placed 3rd). This validated me; it told me that this was something I could do. Then I completed the manuscript for my first novel, which got accepted by the first publisher I approached, came out in November 2014, made the list of Best Books for Kids and Teens in Canada for 2015 and was cited by this publication for excellent calibre. Turning to writing after a bad experience helped me heal. I hope your excellent post means you have turned a corner and that you can tell yourself that this is something you can do; you are certainly good at it.
Thanks, Glenna. I think that’s what’s made things so hard, was the inability to write through an of it. It’s certainly made me appreciate how strong of a base of friends and family I have, and how integral they are to my writing success.
I’m sorry you had such a tough time. It’s through our challenges the good stuff comes – or so they say. 🙂
